What is the best aurora forecast app?

AuroraVision provides real-time KP index, solar wind data, cloud cover per GPS location and push notifications when aurora is visible. It is free on iOS and Android.

Is the AuroraVision app free?

Yes, AuroraVision is completely free to download and use on both the App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android). There are no subscriptions or in-app purchases required.

How does the aurora forecast work?

AuroraVision combines real-time data from NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center (KP index, solar wind Bz, speed, particle density) with local cloud cover from Open-Meteo to calculate a visibility score from 0–100. The data is updated every 2 minutes.

Which countries does AuroraVision cover?

AuroraVision provides live aurora forecasts for Iceland, Norway, Tromsø, Finland, Sweden, Lapland, Alaska and Yukon. Each country page shows per-city real-time scores based on GPS coordinates.

How do aurora push notifications work?

After downloading the AuroraVision app, you set a score threshold (e.g. notify me when aurora score is above 60). The app monitors conditions at your GPS location every few minutes and sends a push notification when conditions meet your threshold.
